Jonathan Toews
The Blackhawks will be without captain Jonathan Toews for about two weeks after he sustained an upper body injury against St. Louis Tuesday night, head coach Joel Quenneville said after the team’s practice on Wednesday. Toews suffered the injury in the first period of Tuesday’s game when he was hit into the boards by St. Louis winger Matt D’Agostini and did not return to the game.
“He’s going to be out probably a couple of weeks,” Quenneville said. “We’ve had some guys in and out, so the consistency in our lineup hasn’t been in place. At the same time, no matter who it is you’ve got to deal with it. We’ve lost some key guys and got through some pretty big games in a recent stretch here at home. So it’s up to us to find ways.”
Despite the news, Quenneville said that the 22-year-old captain is “feeling okay today,” and handling the situation well.
Quenneville said the Blackhawks will name another alternate captain in Toews’ absence, but did not reveal who would wear the ‘A’ beginning Thursday night.
Toews has 15 goals and 18 assists and is second on the team with 33 points in 38 games this season.
Injury update: Forward Troy Brouwer and defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson, who each missed time Tuesday but finished the game, did not practice Wednesday, but are expected to play Thursday against San Jose… Winger Fernando Pisani (illness) is “doubtful” for tomorrow’s game, according to Quenneville.

No rush – don’t turn a minor injury into a chronic shoulder problem by coming back too soon – heal TOTALLY first.

Heal well and soon My Man! I was one of “many” in St. Louis with a #19 jerzy on, and saw the hit into the boards from across the ice. Your TEAM got the snot kicked out of them after your injury. Don’t let them hang their heard too much longer! Be the voice in their heads! Fight on! Let’s Go Hawks!
